The Epson website will normally auto-detect your computer's operating system to ensure you get the right version of Printer Drivers, other software and so forth. All such info and software for downloading is under SUPPORT area - you select the region in the World where you live, then search for your printer model.
Whilst on the Epson website, download the manual for that model as it will answer many queries for you as regards printing and scanning.
so go to this link on the Epson website, click on Scanner Driver and Scanner Utility and download and install. Anyway - always worth ensuring you have the latest drivers, etc. You can use a select tool to select the bit you want to scan if not the whole - most into on this will be in their manual - which you should have on the CD that came with the printer. When the Preview runs, you will see the document appear after the quick scan in the main RH panel. Normally there is a simple mode but you can change that to the PRO (or may be called Advanced mode) when you can do things like PREVIEW - which will then scan the document or photo in the scanner - and you can in the PRO mode change such as the resolution, what type of documents and so forth. If you click on that, the Epson scanner programme will start.
However, for scanning via the computer, if you are using a Photo programme (like say Adobe Photoshop or virtually all such programmes) normally you will find under the FILE menu (when programme is open) that you should see a menu item on the drop down menu when you click on FILE something like IMPORT - and the Epson printer will be seen listed in the menu that pops up. The printer can be used for scanning without a computer in sense of the scanner offering a copying facility - in B+W or Colour just by pressing the appropriate button on the printer.
